One-Layer Simplicity #3 - Just Add Water

Yipppeee!!! today I'm playing along with two new challenges I just happened upon. Crazy as it may seem this card came about because this morning I was trying out the old wax paper technique now adapted to running it through the cuttlebug with an embossing folder. Anyway after that I brayered the gloss waxed card and then there was a mess of blue dye ink on my plastic sheet I added some yellow credit card lines and a few light cirlces then gave it a light mist and for some reason used an A5 card piece and came up with this background on my card. I add the darker yellow rings and left it at that.  Then browsing through the sites I spied Heather Telfords gorgeous card and new challenge blog - One-Layer Simplicity #3, Just Add Water.  A bit more snooping and I found a very new challenge Virginia's View #1 - Watercolouring. So I proceeded to try and use it folded to make a one layer card...this stamp has been in my collection for many years and may have been used twice...I'm so pleased I might have to make a few more using it and add to my very few male card stash.  This is the first of this type of card for me and I'm really chuffed with how it turned out and I'll be back to play along with these two blogs again. Thanks for taking a peek Robyn

Have a Great Day

Happy Monday blog visitor, and hope you've had a great weekend.  Looking like a miserable wet day here just right for staying at my desk. This card was mostly completed on the weekend - I used the onion skins background paper I made recently because of the brown and green theme at The Card Concept 5 challenge and the simple layout from CAS(E) this sketch CTS#67; clean and layering for this one. I love this Chocolate Baroque stamp reminds me a bit of the layers of an onion.  Thanks for taking a peek Robyn

Just for You

WHW Tutorial 130–Gelli Print

Inspired by Stamping, Irit Shalom, WHW Tutorial 130, Gelli PrintI made this card for the Whoo Hoo Wednesday technique challenge at Inspired by Stamping. Irit created this gorgeous tag with her Gelli Print Tutorial 130.  I didn't have the same paints so just used the ones I had on my Gelli Plate and pulled four A5 backgrounds from it; the top left one I covered with modge podge and the bottom two I sprayed with Perfect Pearls Mist (see other pic - it's has a silvery sheen).  Another of my paper flowers I've been making this week with a new die, and a bunch of turquiose colour wool to finish off the tags. I ended up adding the white frame which I'd cut to see how it worked with another card today and whhellaa it just seemed to fit. I was really sure about the pink and blue prints but overall I'm happy with the way it turned out....always in for trying something new. Cheers and thanks for taking a peek Robyn

SOS #141: 3-2-1

I made this background paper a few weeks back using my distress inks and overspraying with Perfect Pearls Mist. Then stamped my scene to create a sort of sunset.  I've also been making flowers this week and so I was prompted by the stamp to add a waterlily and leaves. I added a frame which has helped break up the card and I suppose give a focal point. This card today is for the Shopping Our Stash #141challenge  3-2-1 ....3 of something, 2 of something else, and 1 of something else) ...I have 3 stands of trees, 2 leaves and 1 waterlily flower.
Thanks for taking a peek and hope you're enjoying your weekend Robyn

Our Beautiful World Week 36 - "Rain"

Good morning, I'm just getting around to posting some photos for Our Beautiful World - Rain theme.  We live on a steep hill and get to look out over all houses, down the valley where the weather comes from. So this week, one early morning as the sun was coming up we had a shower come up the valley - the first one shows the fine rain a couple of streets over. The next is the downhill neighbours roof where there is no downpipe so the rain drips or cascades depending on the rain and the next is their pool with the rain drops showing themselves.  I love the rain especially having lived in the tropics where you get torrential thunderstorms- so heavy you can't see more that a metre or two; they can start and stop really quickly or last for days.  Thanks for taking a peek Cheers Robyn

Happy Birrthday to You

This morning I finished off this bright, fun birthday card using the layout at Inspired by Stamping Card and Tag Challenge.  I really did have some fun yesterday making these lovely bright flowers with watercolour card and distress inks...(click here to go to my Wed post to see how I made them.) I made the background paper by "mopping up" the distress ink left after sponging my flowers, lightly stamped a text stamp.
I'm posting this card to four challenges

Christmas Post Card

CH#38 * More than 3 Embellishments *

This morning I'm posting another Christmas card for two challenges - Merry Monday #98 would like some stitching and buttons and Sparkles Christmas Challenge CH#38 at least 3 embellishments.  I have three mini buttons and also I have made up two 'faux' postage stamps from recycled used postage stamps; the tree one is actually shiny embossed green with gold star and words. The background card is also embossed with a post card embossing folder.  Thanks for taking a peek Robyn

What's On Your Workdesk, Wednesday #248

Hello from my desk in sunny Queensland, Australia.  Firstly a very big thank you to all who visited my desk last week and the weeks before that, much appreciate the lovely comments you leave.  I  try to get to as many desks as one can not always leaving a comment but I am amazed at the work of the crafty people who participate on Julias Blog (if you're new and want to know more click here)
This week on my desk are some new dies on the left - leaves and a doiley and those strips in the middle are ready to be made into flowers from the die just to the top left. Next to them are some round flowers ready cut to colour. There's my mid morning coffee mug next to my phone and some paint sample strips I hope to play with soon....inspired by others :-)
If you want to see more about the flowers, read on, I have photos and if you click on the pic it will enlarge for a close-up.  Thanks for taking a peek and have a wonderful week Robyn
These are die strips that you roll up to made a flower - card from yesterday here.

You have to glue two strips together. I decided to add a deeper colour for the centre of the flower
Here they are rolled tight, then I adhere a sticky dot to the bottom to secure them
You gently pull the petals down to  make the flower to your desire

My second batch of flowers - I dyed with distress inks
Crumpled them up and stamped text on them
Then used foam dots to layer them and added a button to finish.
I also soaked up all the ink from the sponging on a background card.
These strips were left when I die cut the flower strips - figured they'd make great stencils for journal pages.

I'm playing along with Inspired by Stamping Blog Hop - Flowers also using their "Thanks" sentiment stamp,
Using the layout at Pals Paper Arts #PP193
and the Shades of Grey colour for the CAS-ual Fridays #CFC129 challenges.
I made my two tone flowers with a new Cheery Lynn flower strip die.

Live Laugh Love

A big welcome to a new month...can you believe it's March already. A tag card from me this fine Saturday afternoon...alas I'm without my skyping friend Vikki who is off enjoying a relaxing weekend by the beach.   I've used the layout at Retro Sketches rs#103 for my tag and another flower made from my jars of visible flowers on the shelf above my desk, layered over a diecut  onto a tag I coloured and stamped.  Thanks for taking a peek Robyn
