At Our Beautiful World this week #37 the theme is 'ROAD'. This road photo is of the Eyre Highway which runs some 2700km between Perth and Adelaide, Australia and crosses the Nullabor Plain which is about half of that distance. Travelling this road is mighty boring at times with some very long stretches of straight road. The Caiguna to Balladonia stretch is 182 kms and according to Wikipedia "while the road contains the longest straight section of tarred road in Australia (146.6 km, 91.1 mi)." The countryside is sparsely vegetated and there are very few people and petrol stops need to be planned.
This part of the journey is along the Great Australia Bight which opens out onto the Indian Ocean. The Eyre Highway travels close to the cliffs of the "Bight" and we stopped for some photos.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Our Beautiful World ... It's always so good to see other parts of the world and learn new things ... Have a lovely day!

ReplyDeleteHello Robyn, I've heard of this road before and think it a daunting task to drive it :-) But Australia is so beautiful and so different from the Netherlands where I live, one day I would love to pay a very long visit to your beautiful country. Love your photos and story, they fit the word Road perfectly! Wishing you a sweet Sunday.
