Recently celebrated my mum 95th birthday, but our visit also coincided with my brothers 70th, so I made him a fishing card as that's his favorite pastime - he doesn't look to happy with what he found on his hook though.
I used this months technique over at Group of Cardmakers - Stenciling with Mica Powders ... created the background using different shades of blue Distress Inks, then applying embossing ink and dusting over matching colours of Magical Micas - spritzed lightly with water and heat set... then stamped, coloured and fussy cut my fisherman and die cut at big 70
I love to make floral cards for Christmas and this one is inspired by the gorgeous Poinciana trees flowering over our back fence at the moment and the carpet of red flowers strewn over our lawn and paths. I used the same technique with a stencil and Magical Micas (a little bit messy today) and white embossed the sentiment of the red card.

You have done great work with those mica powders. Such a lovely effect. I am going to be 70 next birthday so I know how your brother feels. Congrats to your mum on reaching 95 too. That's so impressive. Thanks for your visit to me early and your lovely comment. Merry Christmas to you and your too xx
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous cards, Robyn. The fishing card is very clever. My Dad will be 90 next week, so we'll be celebrating too. Happy birthday to your Mom. And thanks for the gorgeous bauble card you sent me. Thanks for playing at The Christmas Kickstart Challenge, Jo x
ReplyDeleteHi Robyn. So sorry I'm so late commenting. Both your cards are so wonderful with the mica powders. It really makes the most beautiful watery background for your brother's fishing card. Yes, he does look unhappy about that big 70 attached to his line. :) Always fun to tease siblings!! :) Your poinsettia card is so pretty. I know what you mean about mica powders sometimes being messy --- it happens, but they still are so beautiful on a card. :) Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful cards with us AND for the gorgeous cards you made as our Guest Designer. We appreciate you SO MUCH!! Love, Loll
ReplyDeleteSorry not to visit sooner Robyn..life seems to have got in the way recently, and I missed these two wonderful cards. I love the look on the fisherman's face holding his '70' and the background goes perfectly and is so shiny, and a lovely stencil too. Also the beautiful flowers, really bright and cheery and the poinciana tree is so impressive! Thank you for sharing these cards with us as well being a super Guest Designer. x
