Our Beautiful World

BRICKS....
is the theme this week at OBW 116
Thomas Alexander O'Donahoo my 3rd Great Grandfather died in 1831 in Tasmania, Australia.  This is what remains of his grave alone on a hill on land he used to farm - huge dead tree and all, it overlooks Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania. I visited the site two years ago and was amazed how I felt about our first English relative to arrive in Australia.
Thanks for stopping by....

    1. I was amazed to find the grave Sue, the family emigrated after his army stint in India in the early 1820s. I love tracing our family roots. Have a fab week yourself Robyn

  4. Oh my goodness, how poignant! So lucky to have this and there are extraordinary views to Maria Island... on the East Coast! What a beautiful spot he farmed! Beautiful photo and keepsake for generations to come!

  5. Oh Robyn so understand why you feel that way, just looking at it was very touching and Maria island can be a very unforgiving Place at that time and even weather wise as well. At least he was overlooking it not on there.

I found the graves of my three and four great grandparents too when driving through in Uralla, near the grave of Thunderbolt the bushranger. It was that which I went to see... Only worked about my family when saw there was a map of old graves and knew they were in the area...
Just maybe I thought and yes there they were!!
They too were farmers on the northern tablelands of NSW and elder relative came out in 1820's from Jersey in Channel Islands :)
