Friday Smiles

My post today is full of photos...it's been a fabulous week.
Firstly miss Sophie got to have her very first sleep over with Nanna, she loved it, just the two of us. I nearly forgot to take a photo,  - here she is perched on her little bed with her two dolls in boxes (of course they had to come with us, also the three teddies) and all ready to go to day care.
Now it's her 2nd birthday on Monday and tomorrow there's a party with a few little friends, so mum and Nanna had a fun day today decorating the cake and biscuits... it's an owl theme party as she loves the children's ABC show - Giggle and Hoot.

These are the milk arrowroot biscuits with their eyes and beaks and we weren't quite sure about "the look"
So I took to them with a biscuit cutter and created those little 'ear' shapes and we painted on some wings.  The little offcuts have gone into a box so Sophie can have a few treats for day care.
We've made up a 'Pin the Beak on the Owl' game and have some owl shapes cut out so the children can colour them and then we with elastic they become party hats.
Our daughter is also due their second child in 10 days so I bought her a special treat....these gorgeous roses - love the colour.
Now I think we are all ready for a party and then a bit of a rest before the new baby arrives....Nanna is in 'heaven' - can't wait (neither can the mum)
Have a wonderful weekend and hope you have some happy times to share over at Annies blog, cheers

Embrace Life

This morning I really had the urge to make a card and as we had been playing with watercolours last weekend I wanted to also experiment with using the Magical Micas as paints.  I stamped these lovely Inspired by Stamping Aster flowers in Versamark and clear embossed them on watercolour paper - well that made it difficult to see the outline (so maybe next time a very pale grey might be the go). Then I wet the first flower and tried sprinkling on the fine powder - it didn't work at all well so I went with the powder on a palette and mixed it before painting - I tried not to be to pedantic about keeping in the lines - I love these colours and how they've turned out; they are all shimmery too. Finally when it was dry I used Evergreen Bough Distress Ink to smooch in the watery background and stamped on a Stamplorations sentiment.  I am posting to Stamplorations New Stamp Release and also to Stamplorations October challenge Stamps and Fave Colour Combo. Thanks for taking a peek

What's On Your Workdesk, Wednesday?

worldwide woyww Week 333, What's On Your Workdesk, Today..... a fun blogging group who share what's happening in their crafty lives....lovely Julia is the hostess - so if you'd like to know more pop over to her blog and join in.

Here's what's being created on my desk today.... it is darling gd Sophies second birthday coming up Monday so I'm making her a card.  The party is on Saturday and the theme is Giggle and Hoot - the ABC kids show....she loves it.
Her mum has used those owls at the back to create party hats that the children can colour in when they arrive.  I googled to find out more about Hootabella and drew up a paper mock-up to get the sizing and colours. And then I set about making the card.....
WEELLLAH ... the finished card !!!
Hope you've had a great creative week, thanks for taking a peek

Watercolour Waterlily

The final card I started on Saturday with the Brushos... I decided to stamp the Inspired by Stamping Waterlily image and emboss it with pearl gold before I coloured it with the Brushos.  To achieve this you first paint the are you are working on (eg the petals) with water and then sprinkle a few grains of Brushos pigment of and watch it spread...I moved the colour about with a water loaded brush...you need to be patient and make sure the painted area is dry before you continue. To finish I 'swam' in some blue to create the watery background.  I am posting to Tuesday Throwdown #266 - Watercolor and to Virginia's View #19 - All Things Coloured.  Thanks for taking a peek

Here is another card I started on Saturday using Brushos to watercolour the clear embossed poppies from Inspired by Stamping Poppy set. The Always Playing with Paper challenge #46 have an Autumn theme so I am posting to this challenge.  CAS Colours and Sketches #146 have a similar colour theme - Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Tangerine Tango and also to the Simon Says Monday challenge - Wonderful Watercolours.  Thanks for taking a peek

Watercolour Poppies

Saturday I  enjoyed a a day with two crafty friends. We played around with Vikki's new Brushos.... I am so excited about painting with them.  For this card I stamped my Inspired by Stamping poppies in Versa Mark and clear embossed them and then used the Brushos to colour the images and apply colour around them.  I the orange shades and am posting to ColourQ # cQc312. Also over at Simon Says Monday challenge the technique is Wonderful Watercolor.

Happy Birthday

Today I have used the October sketch for the Stamplorations challenge for my card.  I used the flower stamp from their  Bloom Sketches set to create the three squares - stamping them in a light ink and then using Distress Inks to colour the images. I then masked the bottom section of patterned paper and sponged on ink to make the area for my sentiment - I used a combination of a die cut word and stamped word. To finish I layered the panel onto a matching plain colour before attaching to the card base.  Thanks for taking a peek

Happy 50th

Very recently both my friend Vikki and I celebrated birthdays...me first.  Vikki knew that I just loved the Tim Holtz Crazy Bird stamps and to my utter surprise and joy she gave me the set for my birthday. So then I set about making her a special card using this fabulous set.  I made a 'bendie' card and had a fabulous time colouring them in in bright colours with my favorite Distress Inks, fuzzy cutting them out and then arranging them around the curves...I added a fence, banner and birthday balloons. These cards are not that difficult to make and lay flat so they fit in an envelope.  I am playing along with Virginia's View #19 - All Things Coloured.  Thanks for taking a peek

Friday Smiles

over at Annies blog...pop over there and join in with the things that have made you week special.
I missed last week as we went away camping for a couple of nights with family and friends.
It was so relaxing, a bit dry and dusty as we're badly in need of rain but we were able to have the good old camp fire.
There we lots of birds... including hens and peacocks that roamed free about the place and Sophie was intrigued...she got to see the male display his feathers, also a few kangaroos and an echidna.

She also enjoyed puddling in the mud when the men emptied the ice water from the esky.

Now this pic was taken last week - Sophie, eating sushi !!! she loves it, and her very pregnant mum - a little over two weeks to go...so exciting
And finally here's a pic of what I call a waterfall orchid attached to one of the mango trees....since I've been 'home' I've been diligently watering it and amazingly the dead looking stalks were just waiting for some TLC... and it has bloomed the last couple of week.
Hope you've had a lovely week with lots to smile about, cheers

What's On Your Workdesk, Wednesday?

Hi there on this fine sunny day in Queensland Australia...how are you enjoying the weather in your part of the world?  Of course I'm here today with a photo of the events happening on my desk for the WOYWW 332 - wondering what I'm on about then visit our hostess Julia's blog to read all about it and join in the fun.  I've missed a few weeks lately and missed being at my desk and blogging too with so much happening at our place since our move back into our home. We're cheering today as our house extension/renovations plans are with the engineers for approval, so there is some slow progress - we have the plans with a few builders who are working on quotes...so it's still a waiting game.  I have found a few hours yesterday and today to make a couple of cards - you can see todays card on my desk and the makings scattered around.  At the back I've a finished card and my next task will be to use the die cut remnants to make another...had to remember to collect all those little bits from the die before they got swept into the bin.  I've a few hours of peace and quiet just now so I'm off to visit some crafty workdesks....have a fabulous week Cheers
